CLEonline.com, together with the Houston Bar Association (HBA), are pleased to present a special online CLE program in the area of dispute resolution and mediation. This presentation is designed to show effective and ethical strategies in mediation that will help you get the most from this important part in the resolution of most all legal cases. This course features a streaming audio (as well as a downloadable MP3 audio) presentation from a live CLE seminar on this topic that was originally conducted by the Houston Bar Association (HBA) on June 27, 2013. You can access this presentation on demand at any time during the course of the seminar session.

Subjects to be discussed during this course include:

  • Why Use Mediation

  • Qualifications and Standards for Mediators

  • Different Mediation Styles

  • Communication is Essential

  • The Mediation Process

  • The Private Caucuses - Educate the Mediator

The speaker for this course is Mr. Derek J. Lisk, a trial lawyer and mediator in private practice in Houston. Mr. Lisk is admitted to practice in all state courts in Texas and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, American Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, Houston Bar Association and the Houston Bar Foundation. He received his law degree from University of Houston Law Center (J.D., 1988) and his undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut (B.A., 1971).
